Lava
I've found tutorials for both 3ds Max and Maya on how to
create lava. However I couldn't get the lava to work in Maya, it required two
emitters in one container which I've never done before, so when I tired it the
particles stopped showing. So I will try this tutorial again on a later date in
my spare time.
The Max tutorial though was a good one, I did everything it
said and it works, although it needs a little tweaking, but at the moment it’s
only for tests as I don’t think I’ll be using this kind of lava in my final
clip.
(having trouble uploading the video so here's the link for you tube)

Where did that hole come from?
Here are some screen grabs of the environment I'm working on, at the moment I'm creating the hole where the demon climbs out off.
The first image is just a simple hole, while the second has a more crater effect.Saturday, 28 April 2012
pre-set Max
I manage to find a couple of pre-set particles for 3ds Max. Here are two which I've played around with, and I've been trying to change the effects to match that of a shock wave for Joe's film.

Robot Arm
For my match-moving project I needed to model the robotic arm, here is the turnaround of the final piece I will be putting in the live action scene. It's not as detailed as I want it to be, however it is only being used for the tests to get the hang of match-moving and compositing.

Night time
For my volcano scene I was thinking of maybe adding a night
scene to it, here are a few stills of ideas I’ve rendered out so far.
